While we do Board Horses, all of the personal horses we own are adopted rescues, donated or forfeitures.
Here are their Stories!
(shai·an)
Cochise (kow·cheez) is a Brown Leopard Spot Appaloosa Gelding who came to us in Spring of 2018 at 15 years old, adopted from Appalachian Horse Help and Rescue in Liberty, PA.
Cochise is a retired Barrel Racing horse who knew one speed and one speed only, and that was All Out Go! Cochise is very high energy and also very gentle. He has calmed alot and learned to Whoa, making him an excellent lesson horse for our more experience riders who are ready for a little more fun!
Emma is a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wild Mustang who came onto the farm April 1, 2022 at 6 years old and out of the Wild for only one year. We do not know much else about her history or training, only that there was not much, if any.
‘Emma’ is the first horse to have been officially donated to Heroes Helping Horses | Horses Healing Heroes (6H) and she is a perfect fit!
Look at her now! Going for a jog with Rob around the property and absolutely thriving and loving it!
Kiowa (kai·uh·wuh) is a Standardbred Paso Fino Cross Mare and she is one of the first adopted rescues brought onto the farm in 2017 from the SPCA at Danville, Danville PA.
We knew some of Kiowa’s story included that she had been at the rescue for about four years, was already 28 at the time, not ridable due to a mild case of arthritis and was not catchable.
We had not planned on adopting Kiowa, but she chose us. While picking up Redwood at the shelter, Kiowa self-loaded onto the trailer and the decision had been made for us.
Here is Kiowa having a ‘Maybelline Moment’. There is no doubt she is a very special mare and rates very high on the empathetic equine scale.
Kiowa is currently the eldest equine on the farm and loves to be involved with building confidence with children and the younger students in teaching them how to walk and how to groom horses.
Kiowa is also very highly intuitive when meeting with our special needs clients with autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome or other disabilities.
Kiowa has also played a vital role in working with our veterans, law enforcement and first responders living with PTSD, anxiety or depression as part of the Heroes Helping Horses | Horses Healing Heroes (6H) program.
This is Takota’s baby picture.
Valentino came to the farm in June of 2019 as a 5yr old going on 2 gray 3/4 Lipizzaner, 1/4 AQHA Cross Gelding.
Valentino has some jumping background, flat dressage work and Western Trail experience.
The Lipizzan is a highly inteligent and incredibly loyal breed. Currently used in the Spanish riding school in Vienna where every one of their dressage moves stems from training once used in combat when horses would smash faces, crush skulls and lash out forward at combatants to push through crowds.
